This website is very much under construction. I am using the Network Solutions DIY site builder and it has been a slow learning process but a fun one. (If anyone else has mastered this give me a call) There is a great deal we would like to do but need to keep in mind the lines from Redgum's song Diamantina Drover, "The dreaming by the light of the campfire at night ends with the burning by the day". Clan Gregor New Zealand is part of the worldwide community of people who share an association with Clan Gregor. The international Clan Gregor Society was founded in 1822 and is one of Britain's oldest clan societies. Its purpose today includes strengthening the bonds of kinship and friendship between MacGregors throughout the world and providing a focal point for people interested in the Clan and its history. Here in New Zealand, we continue that tradition in a distinctly New Zealand setting. We meet at Highland Games and Scottish events, help people explore their family connections, maintain links with the wider Clan Gregor community and, perhaps most importantly, provide opportunities for people with a shared heritage to meet one another. You don't necessarily have to be called MacGregor or McGregor to belong. The history of Clan Gregor is unusual. For a lengthy period the use of the MacGregor name was prohibited and Clan members were forced to adopt other surnames. Consequently, the Clan Gregor Society recognises more than one hundred names as having historical associations with the Clan.  If you have discovered a possible Clan Gregor connection in your family history, we would be delighted to to welcome you to the Clan Gregor Society.
